Gold Rush Timeline 1823 - A man name James McBrien who had a job of a government surveyor was near Fish River when he claimed that he had found traces of gold. This fact turned out to be true. 1839 - Small amounts of gold (nuggets) discovered near Hartley, Blue Mountains. At this discovery, no mention was to be made so the rest of the world would know. 1840 - During William Campbell's sheep run in Strathlodden, Victoria, he discovers gold. 1844 - At Hassan's Well, near Lithgow, gold was found by a clergyman and an amateur geologist named William Clarke. 1851 - You could pay for gold in Ophir, NSW. Beginning of the Great Australian Gold Rush! 1854 - Rebelling in Eureka, Victoria, about the miner's license. 1855 - Sydney Mint was allowed to be established, given permission by British Secretary of State. 1866 - Gold found in Rockhampton, Queensland. 1869 - In Moliagul, Victoria, biggest nugget for date, discovered by John Deason and Richard Oates. 1870 - Wealthy gold deposits located in North Queensland. First gold found in Birdwood, South Australia. 1872 - Piece of gold weighing up to 235 kilograms discovered by William Holtermann at Hill End, NSW.
1885 - First speck of gold discovered at Halls Creek, Western Australia. 1887 - Promising amount of gold discovered at Murchison goldfield, Western Australia. 1892 - Large gold deposits in Coolgardie, WA, discovered by Bayley and Ford.
